Gonna Be Big

Although it looks like all progress has slowed down on RDO, it has not. A friend and I are working on a new engine. Another friend is helping out with the map freeze bug. So you can expect new features and a fix for that horrible bug.

We also will add a file encryption to make sure we don't lose any items/sprites from jealous people.

I assure you that once we have the client all set and ready, my only goal will become the new class tree and the items for those classes. I know your all sick and tired of the Dark Knight and his few weapons, but trust me the wait will be well worth it.

You will not notice changes for a few days but when you do, you will be overwhelmed by new features and additions to the game. So don't give up on your 2d mmo!

Thanks to those who read this blog and who stay active on the forums. We will soon be updating the sites front page. It'll work with the blog. More on that later on.

Cheers!

Update here, Update there... Updates everywhere!

As some of you may have noticed. I had tons of server updates lately. This was to add a few revisions as they call it (Microsoft Visual Basics creators).

I've released a client update aswell but it will be the first of atleast two. Im working on several issues. Mainly the map bug and packet flooding. I will also be changing the Quit Game or Log out button of the game. Rather than launch your client again simply to switch characters, 'quitting' the game will actually only bring you back to the main menu where you can actually quit the game or log into a different character.

I've added about 4 types of NPCs (in graveyard/swamp/jail) after the request from several players. I have also reset the top 10 list and hope to release the mining skill.

We are currently working on the different types of ore you can collect and the different types of ores you can make with smelting.

I am having a confrontation with myself today about a possible addition to the game.
A part of me thinks the new class tree is a great idea. The other side considers its downfalls.

Although the idea excited me as much as players, I don't want the NPC for the class change to be in Cathania. All standing side by side like the shop. I could have the ice mage go to Northern Cathania, the adventurer who wishes to be a Dark Knight go to the graveyard for his class change, etc.. The problem is going to Northern Cathania... alive, is hard at a low level compared to the graveyard. Which would mean the Fighter can become a Dark Knight before the Mage becomes an Ice Mage. How fair is that? Everyone thinks being a lead designer for a game is the best job ever. Trust me, its not as easy as it seems. Decisions are extremely important and must be very wise.

New Dev Blog!

Welcome to the dev blog for Realm of Darkness Online. I've always thought that a dev blog would be a great addition to the site because it lets players follow us more closely and helps make this game much more community based. Thats what I want RDO to be. I don't want players to simply play the game, I also want them to be part of the game.

I've recently added a chat to the forums as another initiative to help the community grow. I will add a chat page on the site aswell and add the chat here on this blog so that players always have access to the live chat where they can discuss the game or get help from those online.

I hope that you all stay tuned and read my futur posts on this blog and if you are not yet a forum member you should sign up now and join in on the fun.
